Meet Title:
Oamaru JC - 16 August 2009

Race Date:
2009/08/16

Race Number:
Race 3

Decision: Ms Morris admitted a breach of R 871(1)(d) in that she allowed her mount KING MONTROSE to shift inwards when not clear near the 1000 metre mark resulting in STOPOVER and WAIWANDER having to check.

Ms Morris admitted a breach of R 871(1)(d) in that she allowed her mount KING MONTROSE to shift inwards when not clear near the 1000 metre mark resulting in STOPOVER and WAIWANDER having to check. We thus find the charge of careless riding proved.

--

We have viewed the head and side-on videos and, while we accept the horse was green and has changed legs at the point of the turn, Ms Morris has commenced an angled run across the field to the rail without being her length and another length clear. The result was 2 horses having to check out with Ms Collett, in particular, losing her position in the field. Ms Morris said she heard calling from other jockeys and elected to kick on. We could detect no change in the angle of her run.

--

We agree with Mr Neal that the breach is mid to low range. He has asked for 3 to 4 days suspension. Ms Morris has a previous breach of this Rule this year, with her being suspended for 4 days on March 21 last. We take a starting point of 5 days and give Ms Morris a 1 day discount for her ready admission of the breach. We accept Mr Wall was arranging rides for Ms Morris in the central districts.

--

We suspend Ms Morris from the end of racing today up to and including 3 September. This will be effectively 4 riding days.
