An information was filed under Rule 864 (2) (d) alleging that Trainer Mr R S Wilson failed to correctly attach the off-side rein to the bridle of ROBYN'S CULLEN causing it to come adrift, with ROBYN'S CULLEN taking no part in the event (pulled up).
--Stipendiary Steward Mr P Knowles demonstrated (using video film) the incident, showing clearly that immediately Mr Gorman, the driver of ROBYN'S CULLEN, attempted to guide his horse around the corner leaving the straight, he had a problem with a rein. Mr Gorman did well to keep the horse to the left, and eventually was able to stop the horse safely on the inside of the track on the back straight. The off-side rein was clearly hanging loose.
--Mr Wilson stated that he was unsure how this had occurred and that he had personally connected the rein prior to the race. The only possible explanation was that it was found that there had been a twist in the rein which was corrected by Mr Gorman. Mr Wilson was confident that Mr Gorman correctly then re-attached the rein.
--Mr Knowles suggested that this was a very unusual happening, but that he had heard of it before. He suggested a fine in the lower range would be sufficient.
--DECISION :
--A fine of $100.00 was imposed.
