Decision: Following the running of Race 5, the NRM (NZ) Sires’ Stakes 2 – Year – Old Trotters Championship, an Information Instigating a Protest was laid by Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr N. R. Escott alleging a breach of Rule 870(3) and the “Breaking Horses” Regulation by “Pocaro” (3)
Following the running of Race 5, the NRM (NZ) Sires’ Stakes 2 – Year – Old Trotters Championship, an Information Instigating a Protest was laid by Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr N. R. Escott alleging a breach of Rule 870(3) and the “Breaking Horses” Regulation by “Pocaro” (3) which finished 5th in the race.

Mr M. Purdon, the trainer and driver of “Pocaro”, did not attend the hearing, but had written on the Information “I do not contest the protest”. Mr Escott used video coverage to show that “Pocaro” had broken from its gait at the start of this 1950 metre mobile race, and had continued in a break for more than 150 metres. In addition “Pocaro” had again broken from its gait in the final 200 metres, and had been in a break for about 80 metres before regaining it short of the winning post.

Accordingly “Pocaro” was disqualified from its 5th place. The amended places are as follows.
