--

Under Rule 871 (1) (d) an information alleging A Webb, the rider of TO THE HILT, angled his mount outward near the 500 metre mark when not clear of MONET SPINNING (R Hannam) which was checked.

--

Trainer B McDonald represented A Webb at the hearing.

--

Mr Webb confirmed he admitted the charge.

--

Both available films were shown and stipendiary steward J Oatham indicated the point of the race that the incident occurred.

--

Mr Mc Donald told the committee that although the charge was admitted he believed that MONET SPINNING may have contributed to the incident by racing greenly. It was the horse’s first start and he believed it shifted out.

--

Mr Webb concurred that MONET SPINNING did race greenly.

--

Submissions on penalty were called for and stipendiary steward J Oatham said that jockey Webb had been riding for approximately two years and that his period of suspension imposed on the first day of the meeting was his first . He told the committee that although his record was good under this rule he believed a period of suspension was warranted.

--

Jockey Webb informed the committee he was getting more rides and rode mainly in the North Island

--

DECISION and REASON

--

Mr Webb, this committee has taken into account your admittance of the breach and your good record under this rule over the two years you have been riding. However, interference did occur and your mount took the line of another horse to which that horse was entitled. We have decided to suspend you from race riding for a period of four days. This period of suspension will be from after the completion of racing on 15 November until the completion of racing on 22 November.
