Apprentice Jockey Mr C Parish (assisted by Ms Piri Ranui) admitted a breach of rule 530(2)(b) in that he struck his mount ?Leica Gazelle?with the whip in an excessive and unnecessary manner.

Apprentice Jockey Mr C Parish (assisted by Ms Piri Ranui) admitted a breach of rule 530(2)(b) in that he struck his mount ?Leica Gazelle?with the whip in an excessive and unnecessary manner.
--Mr Williamson, assistant stipendiary steward, demonstrated the incident on the video of the use of the whip from the turn to the 200 metre mark . He stated that the whip was used 15 times and not put away at any stage. ?Leica Gazelle? did not respond to this excessive use. From the 200 metre mark until the finish Mr Parish continued to use the whip.
--Mr Coles made submissions on penalty in that a warning had previously been given on 22-08-07 and that the unnecessary use of the whip warranted a suspension.
--Mr Parish asked that the fact that he had admitted the breach be taken into consideration and that could any suspension commence after Paeroa racemeeting on the following Wednesday as he had already accepted two jumping rides. As this fell within seven days of the meeting at Avondale Mr Coles did not oppose this request. Mr Coles stated that Mr Parish rode regularly in the North Island.
----The panel took these submissions into consideration including admission of the breach, and suspended Mr C.Parish from riding from the conclusion of racing on Wednesday the 19th September until the conclusion of racing on Sun 23rd September This for Mr Parish was effectively a 3 day suspension.
