Race 9

Decision: --

Following Race 9 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d), when it was alleged by the Informant, Mr C George, that Mr B Jones, the rider of BENEDICT, allowed his mount to shift to the outside of UBERALLES

--

DECISION AND REASON:

--

Following Race 9 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d), when it was alleged by the Informant, Mr C George, that Mr B Jones, the rider of BENEDICT, allowed his mount to shift to the outside of UBERALLES, and in doing so take SALPERTON (G Cooksley) out on to IL GIOCATORE (L Allpress) who in turn was forced on to LORD (L Cropp) near the 350 metre mark resulting in those runners being hampered.

--

Mr Jones admitted the breach.

--

Mr Coles demonstrated the race videos and showed at the 350 metre mark Mr Jones riding BENEDICT angle his mount out from behind UBERALLES and in doing so make contact with SALPERTON, (G Cooksley). This caused a chain reaction to LORD (L Cropp) and IL GIOCATORE (L Allpress) on his outside. This meant three horses were interfered with.

--

Penalty:

--

Mr George produced Mr Jones' record, which showed no transgressions. He submitted this was careless riding where three horses suffered interference in a Group 2 race. He submitted a suspension of 4 to 6 days should be imposed.

--

Mr Jones provided an explanation of the incident and asked that his good riding record be considered.

--

In determining an appropriate penalty the committee took into account the following:

--
    --
  1. The guilty plea
  2. --
  3. Excellent riding record
  4. --
  5. Status of race (Group 2)
  6. --
  7. Three runners suffered interference
--

Accordingly, the committee imposed a suspension to commence after racing on the 27th of December 2006 up to and including the 1st of January 2007. Two premier days were taken into account during that period of suspension.
