--RACEDAY JUDICIAL REPORT
--Following Race 1 a protest was lodged pursuant to rule 642 (1). The Informant Mr B Jones, rider of the second horse CITY BLUES, alleged that the winner ST PEDRO, caused interference to his mount in the final straight. All connections were informed of the protest and those present at the enquiry were:
--CITY BLUES Mr B R Jones (Jockey)
--ST PEDRO Mr D Walsh (Jockey), Mrs Murdoch and Mr D Olsen (co-trainers)
--The official margin at the post between first and second was ½ a length.
--Mr Jones demonstrated the video films and showed Mr Walsh on St PEDRO moving out approximately 2 mower widths. He stated his line was dictated by Mr Walsh which he believed cost him 1 ½ lengths. He said Mr Walsh was not 2 lengths clear when he took his line and he said he was making ground on Mr Walsh on the run to the post.
--Mr Walsh, rider of ST PEDRO, said he was keeping a straight line until the riderless horse moved in front of him and started moving out. He said this caused his mount to move away in the final stages. He believed Mr Jones should have taken the gap on the inside of ST PEDRO which he believed would have been the right option. He added that Mr Jones had never stopped riding.
--Mrs Murdoch said ST PEDRO had kept a straight line until the riderless horse moved out which caused ST PEDRO to move away.
--Mr Oatham, when asked for his appraisal of the incident, said Mr Walsh did move out in the final 100 metres. He said the Committee had to decide whether the riderless horse had contributed to the incident.
--Mr Jones had no new submissions.
--DECISION
--The committee carefully considered all evidence and reviewed the video films. While we concede CITY BLUES did receive interference from ST PEDRO we believe this was caused by the riderless horse. It was clear this caused ST PEDRO to move away and into the line of CITY BLUES resulting in inconvenience to that runner.
--For the above reasons we are not satisfied that CITY BLUES would have beaten ST PEDRO if interference had not occurred.
--Accordingly the protest is dismissed and the Judges placings shall stand.
