A protest was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr P T Knowles, alleging that with approximately 2000 metres to run HURRY CURRY (G Thomas) broke from its gait checking IRAQUI INVASION (A Jenkins), NEW YEAR PRIDE (D Simpson) and ABBEY BRIGHT STAR (N Williamson) with HURRY CURRY gaining an advantage over NEW YEAR PRIDE at the finish by 2.8 lengths.
--Mr Knowles stated that Mr Thomas, the trainer of HURRY CURRY, admitted his horse had caused interference, and that he did not wish to be present at the hearing.
--Mr Knowles used several video clips to demonstrate the alleged interference.
--Mr Simpson, driver of NEW YEAR PRIDE, stated that his horse locked wheels as a result of the interference with his horse losing up to nine lengths as a result. He also stated that his horse finished off the race strongly, and he believed it would have finished in a dividend bearing place.
--After considering all of the evidence, the protest was upheld with HURRY CURRY being relegated to 14th place, and NEW YEAR PRIDE being promoted from sixth placing to fifth placing.
