At the Rangitikei Racing Club meeting on 17 May 2008 Information 6758 was filed pursuant to Rule 508 (2)(5) alleging that Mr I Shaw was late declaring the rider for HOORANG, an acceptor in Race 4.

Mr Shaw did not initially admit the breach of the rule but when asked at the beginning of the hearing to confirm that was the case advised that he did now admit the breach. The details on the Information were amended accordingly.

Mr Goodwin said that the deadline for the declaration of riders for the meeting was 10.00am on Thursday 15 May and Mr Shaw declared his rider at 10.45am - ie 45 minutes after the deadline.

Mr Shaw explained that on the morning of 15 May he had commenced knee surgery on a horse at 9.00am which did not finish until 10.30am. As soon as he had realized he had not declared a rider he contacted the Racing Bureau to do so but conceded that the rules of racing required him to have declared his rider by 10.00am.

Mr Goodwin advised that Mr Shaw had not committed a breach of Rule 508 (2) previously. After considering all matters the Committee imposed a fine of $50.
