Following the running of Race 2 B Fletcher, rider of SEEKING THE DEAL admitted the breach of Rule 530 2 (b).

--

Mr Goodwin, after reading the rule asked Mr J Oatham, Stipendiary Steward, to show the available films and make comment.

--

Mr Oatham informed the committee that Fletcher's mount was struck 18 or 19 times rounding the bend and up to the 200 metre mark, completely outside the guidelines.

--

Jockey B Fletcher agreed the horse was struck too many times but it did have a tendency to lug out and he was wary of other horses coming at him.It was one of his first days back after a long period of suspension and he was over eager.

--

PENALTY AND REASON

--

Mr Goodwin informed the committee that Jockey Fletcher had been charged with this rule and had received a period of suspension last November. However, he stated that while the charge under the rule this time was the same the circumstances in November were very different.

--

Mr Fletcher told the committee he had just resumed his riding career after a period of suspension. He had struggled with his weight and had trouble getting rides again which he believed would make it harder if he was suspended. He did ride occasionally outside the C D area.

--

The committee in deciding a period of suspension was appropriate, took into account Mr Fletcher's submissions but believed the incident in which the horse was struck 18 or 19 times from rounding the bend up to the 200 metre mark was completely outside the guidelines.

--

Jockey B Fletcher was suspended from race riding from after the completion of racing on Tuesday 2 January 2007 until the completion of racing on Thursday 11 January.
