Mr Lammas, who was represented by trainer H Mathews, admitted the breach of the rule.

Mr Neal showed the film and said that Mr Lammas made a celebratory gesture 2 strides before the winning post.

Mr Mathews said that Mr Lammas had ridden the horse in all it’s track work prior to having its first start today and that in combination with the horse rearing at the start and losing ground and then over racing in the early stages of the race, meant that Mr Lammas’ emotions got the better of him at the end of the race.

Decision and Penalty

Mr Neal advised that Mr Lammas had an excellent riding record and had not previously been charged under this rule. He indicated that the breach was not at the top end of the scale and recommended that a fine of between $100 and $200 be imposed.

After reviewing the films, considering all the submissions made and taking into account Mr Lammas’ excellent riding record and his admittance of the breach, the Committee imposed a fine of $150.
