Race 8

Decision:

Following race 8 an Information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) when it was alleged by Mr George that Mr T Harris, rider of PRETTY VEGAS, allowed his mount to shift ground inwards when not clear causing tightening to SING SONG GIRL

--

DECISION & REASON:

--

Following race 8 an Information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) when it was alleged by Mr George that Mr T Harris, rider of PRETTY VEGAS, allowed his mount to shift ground inwards when not clear causing tightening to SING SONG GIRL (P Ferris) and checking DOUBLE OR NOTHIN (M Du Plessis) near the 1200 metres.

--

--

Mr Harris pleaded guilty to the charge and was represented by Mr S McKee.

--

--

Mr George demonstrated the video films and showed where soon after the start Mr Harris allowed his mount to move inwards when not the required distance clear of SING SONG GIRL on his inside. As a result of the tightening received by SING SONG GIRL it caused this horse to also move in and check DOUBLE OR NOTHIN on its inside.

--

--

PENALTY:

--

Mr George said that he considered the offence was of a serious nature. He agreed that the affected horses may have contributed in a minor way, but at no time was Mr Harris clear of them. He also reminded the Committee that this was a listed race. He acknowledged that Mr Harris had engagements at Hastings on 6 October and in doing so asked that any suspension start after that date. He asked for a suspension of 4 – 6 days and a fine of $500 - $1000.

--

--

Mr Harris confirmed his Hastings engagements.

--

--

The Committee, after considering all submissions, suspend Mr Harris from riding commencing after the completion of racing on 6 October until the completion of racing on 13 October (5 days) and a fine of $500.
