DECISION & REASON:
--Following race one an Information was filed pursuant to Rule 530(2)(b) when Stipendiary Steward J P Oatham alleged that Mr P Turner used the whip excessively on his mount KEY WHIZ.

Mr A Coles demonstrated the video. He showed that as the field entered the straight Mr Turner started using the whip on his mount. He struck his mount 11 times without a break, spelled for 3 strides, then used it 8 more times. This was before the 200 metre mark. Mr Coles said that the accepted use was 6 strikes, then 6 strides spell.

As Mr Turner has pleaded guilty the Committee is required to rule on penalty only.

Mr Oatham gave Mr Turner’s record which showed one breach of the same Rule in the last 12 months. He asked for a suspension of at least 4 days.

Mr Turner had nothing to add.

After due consideration the Committee suspend Mr Turner from race riding from the conclusion of racing on 3 April until the conclusion of racing on 16 April, 4 days.
