Mr McCallum you?ve admitted a breach of rule 861(1) in that you started race 7 when BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN had been lined up on the inside of the 2nd line instead of on the outside of the front line.
| -- Mr McCallum you?ve admitted a breach of rule 861(1) in that you started race 7 when BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN had been lined up on the inside of the 2nd line instead of on the outside of the front line. I am aware that this was as a consequence of the actions of the assistant starter and that you state you told the drivers there was only 1 horse on the second line. You say that you realised your mistake too late. The field had been dispatched. ----Mr McCallum this is a serious breach of the Rules of Harness Racing and places the industry in a bad light. The racing public need to have confidence in harness racing and this includes the need to know that horses will be instructed to start and do start from their correct mark. ----Mr Knowles has asked for a fine of $500. We agree that this amount reflects the gravity of the breach. However, taking into account this is your first breach, your ready admission of the breach and your taking responsibility for the actions of your assistant, that you are relatively inexperienced, your good record, and that your raceday fee is $300, we believe that the matter can be dealt with by way of a fine of $400. You are fined that amount. You should not need to have your responsibilities under the Rules of Harness Racing drawn to you attention, but we do so, and in no uncertain terms. ----Chairman ------
