Prior to the hearing Stipendiary Steward Mr Ydgren produced authorisation, pursuant to Rule 1103(4)(c), from the General Manager of HRNZ for this Information to be filed.

An information has been filed by Stipendiary Steward Mr N. M. Ydgren  against Mr S. J. Thompson, the driver of “Mevagissey Mickey” (14), alleging that he committed a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used his whip excessively on that horse in Race 11, the Southern Engineering Solutions Ltd Pace, at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s meeting at Motukarara Racecourse on 4 October 2009.

An information has been filed by Stipendiary Steward Mr N. M. Ydgren  against Mr S. J. Thompson, the driver of “Mevagissey Mickey” (14), alleging that he committed a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used his whip excessively on that horse in Race 11, the Southern Engineering Solutions Ltd Pace, at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s meeting at Motukarara Racecourse on 4 October 2009.

Mr Thompson had indicated on the information that he admitted this breach of the Rules and that he did not wish to attend the hearing.

--

Video coverage of the race was used to show that Mr Thompson had used his whip in excess of  24 occasions in the run home.

--

In relation to penalty Mr Ydgren advised that Mr Thompson had no previous convictions for a breach of this Rule, and as he had admitted the breach a fine of $200-00 was recommended.

--

Taking all the above matters into account we were satisfied that a fine of $200-00 was appropriate in this case.  Accordingly Mr Thompson was fined the sum of $200-00.
