Race Date:
2006/09/16

Race Number:
Race 8

Decision: --

Following race 8 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) when it was alleged by the informant, Stipendary Steward Mr A Coles, that B Lammas, the rider of MEG RYAN moved in when not clear of FLAME PROOF (V Colgan)

--

DECISION & REASON:

--

Following race 8 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) when it was alleged by the informant, Stipendary Steward Mr A Coles, that B Lammas, the rider of MEG RYAN moved in when not clear of FLAME PROOF (V Colgan) who was dictated into the line of O?REILLYS JEWEL (C Grylls) who made contact with the running rail and checked sharply.

--

Mr Robinson demonstrated the film which clearly showed Mr Lammas directing his mount towards the running rail when not sufficiently clear and also showed the resultant interference to FLAME PROOF which culminated in O?REILLYS JEWEL hitting the running rail several times.

--

Mr Autridge, representing Mr Lammas, accepted that serious interference had occurred.

--

PENALTY:

--

As Mr Lammas had admitted the offence the committee are only charged with setting an appropriate penalty.

--

Mr Coles, in his submissions, gave Mr Lammas' very good record but asked for a suspension of at least 2 weeks.

--

Mr Autridge stated that Mr Lammas had just returned to riding after a long injury break and he rode extensively in the North Island.

--

The committee views the interference as being on the high end of the scale. We do however accept the mitigating circumstances that Mr Lammas had just returned to race riding, his excellent riding record, and his early admission of guilt.

--

We therefore suspend Mr. Lammas from riding from the conclusion of racing on 20 September till the conclusion of racing on 4 October 2006, 2 weeks.
