Decision: --

In Race 1, the Anzac Day 2100, a protest was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr A Coles, alleging that FLIGHT FIGHTER, trained by Mr R Priscott and ridden by Mr J Gillies, placed second, interfered with SISTER VERONICA

--

DECISION & REASONS:

--

In Race 1, the Anzac Day 2100, a protest was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr A Coles, alleging that FLIGHT FIGHTER, trained by Mr R Priscott and ridden by Mr J Gillies, placed second, interfered with SISTER VERONICA, trained by Mr D Greene and ridden by Mr Lance Macfarlane, placed third. Mr Priscott was represented by rider Mr J Gillies.

--

The margin between second and third was a neck.

--

Mr Coles stated that SISTER VERONICA was checked by FLIGHT FIGHTER 100 metres from the finish. A gap against the rail was available and would have given a clear passage for SISTER VERONICA but FLIGHT FIGHTER moved in ? a width and checked the forward motion of SISTER VERONICA, causing the rider Mr L Macfarlane to lose ? - 1 length. Mr Oatham demonstrated this on the video head-on and side-on films.

--

Mr L Macfarlane said he had a gap opening at the 200 metre mark and when halfway into the gap FLIGHT FIGHTER closed the gap and in doing so made contact causing SISTER VERONICA to lose ? a length. Mr Gillies claimed that a car on the inside of the running rail affected his horse and that Mr Macfarlane did not stop riding.

--

Mr Coles, in his closing statement, said that Mr Macfarlane did stop riding for 3 strides.

--

The judicial panel decided that interference occurred by the inward movement of FLIGHT FIGHTER and the check did affect the forward momentum of SISTER VERONICA who finished a neck behind FLIGHT FIGHTER and affected her chances of a better placing. The panel exercised its discretion to uphold the protest and relegate FLIGHT FIGHTER to third.

--

Placings for the race will be :

--

1st DON LUCIANO

--

2nd SISTER VERONICA

--

3rd FLIGHT FIGHTER
