Stipendiary Steward, Mr S Larkins, alleged the Mr PA Heywood (Starter) failed to declare a false start when MELISSAWAY (P McLelland) fell prior to the start of Race 10.
| -- DECISION AND REASON ----Stipendiary Steward, Mr S Larkins, alleged the Mr PA Heywood (Starter) failed to declare a false start when MELISSAWAY (P McLelland) fell prior to the start of Race 10. ----Video evidence was shown. Mr Heywood (Starter) said he thought the horse had fallen after the start. He had passed the point of the distance marker for 2000m. He could not remember saying ?Right?, but felt he would have. Mr McClelland, the driver of MELISSAWAY said he fell in the run-up, just after the start. He did not recall the starter saying ?Right?. ----A request for a ruling resulted in MELISSAWAY being declared a late scratching. ----Decision: ----As there was no interference to any other runner and the point of the start had been passed, the charge was dismissed. The only question that could have constituted a false start in this case was if "the horse falls before the word ?Right? is called." No one can testify if it was called or was not called. |
