Following race 4 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 876(1) by the connections of SENT TO SEA alleging that ZEDCAR which was placed third by the Judge interfered with the chances of SENT TO SEA placed fourth by the Judge.
--| -- DECISION & REASON: --Following race 4 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 876(1) by the connections of SENT TO SEA alleging that ZEDCAR which was placed third by the Judge interfered with the chances of SENT TO SEA placed fourth by the Judge. ----The Judge's margin was 1? lengths. ----Stipendiary Steward, Mr J Oatham, reserved the right to charge jockey C Ormsby rider of ZEDCAR. ----Mr McQuaid said that the outward movement of ZEDCAR into the line of SENT TO SEA caused Mr Lammas, his jockey, to check his mount and as a result lost one length. Mr Lammas said he was beside the eventual winner when ZEDCAR moved out which caused him to check for 1 ? 2 strides, and in the heavy ground it was hard to regain momentum. ----Mr Moroney showed where once SENT TO SEA recovered from her slight check she did not make any ground on ZEDCAR over the final 150 metres. ----Mr Ormsby confirmed Mr Moroney's evidence and added that, in his view, the winner RED CLOUD moved in fractionally and contributed to the interference. ----Mr Oatham submitted that ZEDCAR?S first outward movement was clear of the field, but in the second he did contribute to minor interference. He suggested the Committee consider the 1? length margin and the way that both horses were finishing. ----After reviewing the evidence the Committee accept that there was slight interference to the fourth placed horse SENT TO SEA. We do, however, dismiss the protest because of the minor nature of the interference, the 1? length margin at the finish, and the manner in which both horses finished the race. Accordingly we dismiss the protest and the Judge's placings stand. ------
