Decision: Mrs. L. Allpress was charged under Rule 871 (1) (d) in that she rode carelessly when she allowed her mount to move out when not clear and in doing so interfered with ‘LITTLEBITHOT’ who was checked.

Mrs. L. Allpress was charged under Rule 871 (1) (d) in that she rode carelessly when she allowed her mount to move out when not clear and in doing so interfered with ‘LITTLEBITHOT’ who was checked.  Mrs. Allpress was the rider of ‘NIKAI’.

--

--

Stipendiary Steward Mr N Goodwin showed the three available films - head, side and back on and pointed out the alleged incident.

--

--

Jockey Daniel Stackhouse told the committee that he was checked by Mrs Allpress's actions on her mount, she took his line and he had to stop riding.  He said he called when his line was taken and believed contact was made.  Mrs L Allpress asked by way of a question why she was charged when the protest arising out of the alleged incident was dismissed.  She was informed by the Chairman while this charge arose out of the protest it was not unusual for a charge to be laid even if the protest had been dismissed.

--

--

She agreed that Jockey Stackhouse did call, contact was made but felt his horse was labouring.  Both horses were under pressure and ‘LITTLEBITHOT’ was moving outwards.  Mrs Allpress told the committee it was not careless riding as her horse was travelling the better.

--

--

Stipendiary Steward Goodwin informed the committee that Mrs Allpress had an obligation to straighten her mount when it moved outwards.  He strongly believed she didn’t.

--

--

--

Decision and Reason:

--

--

Mrs Allpress.  The committee, after hearing the evidence and revisiting the available films, find the charge proven.  The video evidence confirmed in our mind that another horses line was taken, you made no attempt to straighten and forced Jockey Stackhouse to stop riding and change ground from a position he was perfectly entitled to be.

--

--

--

Submission on Penalty:

--

--

Mr Goodwin informed the committee that Mrs Allpress was a senior jockey with a good record, she had not been charged under this rule this year.  However, he believed the incident was serious enough to warrant a period of suspension.

--

--

Mrs Allpress told the committee she did ride all over the country and would prefer any suspension to begin after Saturday 28th of June racing at Hawkes Bay.

--

--

--

Decision:

--

--

Mrs Allpress.   In coming to our decision to impose a period of suspension for the breach of this rule, we have taken into account your riding record which we agree is very good.  However, the seriousness of the offence deemed that we initially looked at a four day suspension, however we have, because of good riding record, decided to impose a period of suspension of 3 riding days.  We have agreed with your request to ride at Hawkes Bay on Saturday 28th June.  You are suspended from race riding after the completion of racing on Saturday the 28th of June until the completion of racing on Thursday the 3rd of July.
