An information # 5535 was laid by Stipendiary Steward Mr J McLaughlin alleging under Rule 330 (3) (c) that jockey Mr D Bothamley failed to make the weight for AQUIT in race 6, The Ravelston Stud Handicap.
Mr Bothamley admitted a breach of the Rule.
The Rule reads : A rider shall not fail to ride a horse at the weight at which it is handicapped to carry.
--Stipendiary Steward Mr McLaughlin stated that Mr Bothamley had approached him earlier in the race day stating that he was unable to make the carded weight of 54.5 kg on AQUIT, being 1 kg overweight.
--Mr Bothamley stated that he had worked hard to get down to the weight since taking the ride, having several spas and saunas between Tuesday 9 February up to and including the morning of the races.
--SUBMISSIONS ON PENALTY
--Mr McLaughlin stated that Mr Bothamley had received one penalty in the past twelve months under this Rule. He also stated that Mr Bothamley worked hard at his weight. Mr McLaughlin indicated a range of penalty between $ 100 and $200 would be appropriate for this breach.
--The Committee was satisfied a breach of the Rule had occurred and Mr Bothamley was fined the sum of $150.00.
