An Information was laid by Stipendiary Steward Mr T TAUMANU alleging that in Race 6, Mr S J REID the driver of DEIMOS drove carelessly when he struck the back of the sulky of THREE J’S (A Donnelly), causing his own horse to break with 300 metres to run.

An Information was laid by Stipendiary Steward Mr T TAUMANU alleging that in Race 6, Mr S J REID the driver of DEIMOS drove carelessly when he struck the back of the sulky of THREE J’S (A Donnelly), causing his own horse to break with 300 metres to run.
--The information was served on Mr Reid and signed by him admitting the breach and electing not to appear before the hearing.
--Mr Muirhead with reference to video footage of the relevant stage of the race indicated to the Committee the actions of Mr Reid in travelling too closely behind Miss Donnelly immediately before his horse struck her sulky and broke up.
--Mr Reid was driving the short odds favourite and the error effectively removed any chance he had in the race. Miss Donnelly’s horse was not affected.
--Mr Muirhead submitted the offence was at the lower end of the scale and in account with penalty guidelines suggested a fine in the region of $250 to $400. Mr Reid had one previous careless driving breach in the preceding twelve months
--Taking into account Mr Reid’s guilty plea and the previous submissions the Committee order a fine of $300.00
