Decision: -- Trainer Mr K Gray admitted a charge brought under Rule 829 (2) in that he presented CANCAN and AMORIST at the inspection area with the incorrect saddle cloths. Trainer Mr K Gray admitted a charge brought under Rule 829 (2) in that he presented CANCAN and AMORIST at the inspection area with the incorrect saddle cloths. In admitting the breach Mr Gray informed the committee that two experienced staff were on course working for the stable and had the responsibility to saddle up the stable representatives. He concurred that the horses concerned were not checked and he was told by Stipendiary Steward Mr N Goodwin of the mix up. He believed that the mistake was picked up in the saddling area prior to the horses entering the birdcage. Mr Neal asked for monetary penalty in the vicinity of $500.00. He informed the committee that this was Mr Gray's first charge under this rule. He is an experienced and respected trainer who had readily admitted the breach. REASON: In coming to a decision, the committee imposed a monetary penalty having taken into account Mr Gray's admittance of the breach. We concur with Mr Neal that Mr Gray's record over many years as a trainer is exemplary. However, a serious mistake was made and as a trainer and employer of staff he must take the responsibility. It was fortunate that the mistake was picked up prior to the horses entering the birdcage. DECISION: The committee imposed a fine of $300.00. T W Castles Chairman
