Decision: Following the running of Race 4, The Southern Trust Mobile Pace, an information instigating a protest was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr N M Ydgren, by ROCKET FUN (G A Payne), placed 11th by the judge, against STREETS ON FIRE (S F Smolenski), placed 5th by the judge

DECISION AND REASONS:

--

Following the running of Race 4, The Southern Trust Mobile Pace, an information instigating a protest was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr N M Ydgren, by ROCKET FUN (G A Payne), placed 11th by the judge, against STREETS ON FIRE (S F Smolenski), placed 5th by the judge, on the grounds of alleged interference in the run home.

--

--

Mr Ydgren informed the Committee that the connections of STREETS ON FIRE did not contest the protest and did not wish to be present at the hearing of the information.

--

--

Mr Ydgren showed to the Committee video replays of the final 200 metres of the Race. The video showed Mr Smolenski looking for a run in behind the leaders. He initially moved out looking for a run and then he moved back down where there was insufficient room. In doing so, the sulky wheel of STREETS ON FIRE had gone under the girth of ROCKET FUN causing that runner to go off stride. There was no inward movement from the other runner outside of STREETS ON FIRE.

--

--

The Committee was satisfied that there had been interference by STREETS ON FIRE to ROCKET FUN inside the final 200 metres of the Race as a result of which the latter horse broke, its chances being extinguished. It was, in the Committee’s view, a clear case for relegation of STREETS ON FIRE. It was also significant that the connections of STREETS ON FIRE elected not to contest the relegation.

--

--

Accordingly, the protest was upheld and STREETS ON FIRE was relegated from 5th placing to 11th placing. Consequent upon the relegation, the amended placings for the Race are as follows:

--

1st   13  Rushin Courage

--

2nd  15  Ohoka Nevada

--

3rd  17  Indy Village

--

4th  14  He’s A Charmer

5th    8  Alessia
