Race Date:

Race Number:
Race 5
Decision:

Following Race 5 a protest was lodged pursuant to Rule 876(1) by R Jones when he alleged that POSTMASTER BOY or its rider placed 2nd by the Judge caused interference to ASKYOURSELF placed 3rd by the Judge. The alleged interference took place in the final straight.
----
Mr R Manning, the defendant, was involved in preparing a horse for the next race and he asked that his rider Mr A Webb represent him.
----
Mr R Jones represented the connections of ASKYOURSELF.
----
The margin between 2nd and 3rd was ¾ length.
----
Mr Jones demonstrated the video. He showed that as the horses entered the straight Mr Webb allowed his horse to roll in. Mr Jones said he was pushed inwards and bumped Mrs Allpress. He said his horse races from the back and normally finishes strongly. He claimed that he was hampered for 4-5 strides before getting clearance.
----
Mr Webb said his mount moved in for a couple of strides before he straightened for the run to the finish.
----
Stipendiary Steward, when asked for his interpretation of the incident, said that Mr Jones was impeded briefly at the top of the straight but in the final run to the finish he did not make any ground on Mr Webb.
----
DECISION: After reviewing the evidence the committee accepts that ASKYOURSELF was briefly impeded as the field entered the straight. It also notes that once ASKYOURSELF got galloping room he made no discernable ground on POSTMASTER BOY.
----
After taking into account the margin of ¾ length the committee do not accept that ASKYOURSELF would have beaten POSTMASTER BOY if the incident at the entrance to the straight had not occurred.
----
The protest is dismissed and the Judges placings stand.
