Jockey S Doyle admitted the breach of Rule 871 (4) in that he failed to present himself on course for his engagement on ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS 40 minutes prior to the advertised starting time.  Mr Doyle had to be replaced due to his failure to arrive.

--

Stipendiary steward R Neal informed the committee that Jockey Doyle had travelled by himself to Hastings from New Plymouth and he had misjudged the travelling time. He was aware of his obligations as a jockey and had, of course, forfeited his riding fee.

--

Mr Neal believed the charge should be reflected by way of a fine in the vicinity of between $100 and $300.

--

Jockey Doyle confirmed Mr Neal’s statement and reiterated that he had come a long way for now just two rides.

--

DECISION AND REASON

--

As an experienced rider Mr Doyle should have been aware of his obligations. It is expected that on accepting rides jockeys make themselves aware of travelling time to ensure the riding engagement is undertaken.  The committee noted that this was his first offence under this rule, that he did lose his riding fee, and that he was left with just two rides.

--

Mr Neal asked for a monetary penalty of between $100 and $300. This committee believed that Mr Doyle’s admittance of the breach and his forthright comments were best reflected in a fine of $100.00.
