Following Race 6 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 520 (4)(c). The informant Stipendiary Steward Mr J. Oatham alleged that Mr M. Cameron failed to make the handicapped weight for VERTRISSE(R 6),  MIDNIGHT SPECIAL (R9) & LOREN (R10).

--

Mr M. Cameron admitted the breach and was present for the hearing.

--

Mr Oatham, Senior Stipendiary Steward said that Mr Cameron was booked to ride VERTRISSE at 56 kg in Race 6. At weigh out Mr Cameron was found to be a kilo over, which meant he could not make the carded weight along with his other two mounts which were both handicapped at  55.5 kg.

--

Mr Cameron said he rode on Thursday at 55.5 kgs and was surprised he weighed 57 kg today. He said he had weighed himself at home prior to leaving for the races and his reading was 54.6kg. Upon questioning by the Committee Mr Cameron did admit he would have to purchase new batteries for his scales and ensure they were calibrated.

--

Penalty and Submissions

--

Mr Oatham said that Mr Cameron did not have a good record under this rule with this being his 4th charge since February 09. He said it was the rider’s responsibility to make the booked weight and questioned the validity of Mr Cameron’s evidence.  He submitted a fine in the range of $300 to $400 would be appropriate.

--

Penalty

--

The Committee took into account evidence and submissions as presented. Before imposing a penalty they pointed out to Mr Cameron that this was a poor record and he was letting down connections and the betting public by not managing his weight.

--

Accordingly we impose a fine of $350.00 on this occasion.
