Race Number:
Race 3

Decision:

An information instigating a protest was filed by Stipendiary Steward Mr T Taumanu against PRINCESS JILL, driven by Ms N Chilcott, placed 4th by the judge, on the grounds of an alleged breach of the above regulation in that the horse broke from its gait free of interference with 200m to run and galloped for the remainder of the race.

Ms Chilcott, who is also the trainer of the horse, endorsed the information on behalf of the connections with “I do not wish to contest the protest”.

--

She also told the informant she did not wish to be present at the hearing.

--

Mr Taumanu showed the video film of the run home.  It confirmed his evidence.  He recommended that PRINCESS JILL be disqualified.

--

Decision and Reasons

--

Where a horse breaks from its gait free of interference in the last 200m of a race and continues on its break for 50m or more the regulation requires the horse to be either relegated or disqualified.  Given that PRINCESS JILL continued on the break for a distance well in excess of the 50m threshold the committee agrees that disqualification is appropriate.  PRINCESS JILL is disqualified, the amended placings being:-

--

1st           RONERAILS LASS              2nd          YOU’RE THE MAN

--

3rd           FRANCES ROSS                4th           DOUBLE ARE JAY
