--
Mr Escott, chief stipendiary steward, alleged that in race 9 KING COURAGE, placed 2nd by the Judge, broke from its gait some 30 metres from the finish and was lapped on by WILL IT MATTER and LITTLE JOE when it galloped across the line. Placings were 8; 5; 12; 14; 10; 1. Mr Negus, trainer of KING COURAGE, indicated that he concurred with the stipendiary steward's recommendation.
--Mr Escott read the appropriate rule and demonstrated by reference to the video and the still photo of the finish that KING COURAGE was indeed lapped by the two afore-mentioned runners when it galloped across the line.
--In these circumstances we uphold the protest and KING COURAGE is relegated to 4th.
--The amended placings are 8; 12; 14; 5; 10; 1.
