Decision: --

Mr W Herbert, the trainer of HAGAR in Race 6 requested permission to late scratch the horse due to unsatisfactory track conditions.

----------
--

DECISION AND REASONS:

--

--

Mr W Herbert, the trainer of HAGAR in Race 6 requested permission to late scratch the horse due to unsatisfactory track conditions.

--

--

Mr Herbert told the Committee he was very unhappy with the track and his horse MAN ON FIRE in the 2YO race (Race One) had come back, in his words, with its legs "sliced to pieces". The horse was an even footed horse and did not usually strike itself.

--

--

The Committee then heard from the rider of MAN ON FIRE, Mr K Smith, who stated whilst the track was firm the surface was giving away and it was especially bad between the 850 mark and the turn for home.

--

--

Mr McCutcheon then suggested the Committee hear from two senior riders who had ridden in the first race, namely Mr B Herd and Mr D Bradley.

--

--

Mr Herd and Mr Bradley both stated the firm track was cutting up and shifting noticeably due to turf divots not being replaced and holes having been just filled with loose dirt, this causing a shifty surface.

--

--

Mr McCutcheon summed up by saying the track whilst firm was not in good order and was shifting under horses and that he intended giving an on-course announcement to that effect.

--

--

Mr Herbert in conclusion said the horse HAGAR was a valuable horse and that he did not wish to risk him on the shifty surface.

--

--

The Committee took into account all of the statements made to them and were of the view whilst track conditions had not changed since scratching time, Mr Herbert's request to scratch did have merit due to the track conditions and permission was granted
