Decision: -- Subsequent to an earlier successful protest into the running of race 1, a further protest was lodged by the Stipendiary Stewards, against horse number 11, Shirley’s Boy (D Butt), originally placed 6th by the Judge but promoted to 5th place following a hearing. This protest was on the grounds of breaking from its gait in the run home, in breach of Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horse Regulations. Subsequent to an earlier successful protest into the running of race 1, a further protest was lodged by the Stipendiary Stewards, against horse number 11, Shirley’s Boy (D Butt), originally placed 6th by the Judge but promoted to 5th place following a hearing. This protest was on the grounds of breaking from its gait in the run home, in breach of Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horse Regulations. The original placings were: 1st - 3, 2nd - 5, 3rd - 14, 4th - 15, 5th - 16, 6th - 11, but subsequently amended to: 1st - 3, 2nd - 5, 3rd - 14, 4th - 16, 5th - 11, 6th - 10 . After a brief adjournment, during which time the connections of Shirley’s Boy were sought, driver Mr Butt indicated to the stewards that he was acting as agent in the matter, and he endorsed the Information that the protest was not contested. Explaining the circumstances, stipendiary steward Mr McIntyre referred to the video of the run home. It showed Shirley’s Boy breaking from its gait well outside the 50metre mark. It did not regain its gait, and continued in a break through to the finish of the race. Accordingly, he sought disqualification of Shirley’s Boy from its promoted position of 5th place. The protest, which was not contested, was upheld and Shirley’s Boy disqualified from the race. The placings are, therefore, further amended to the following:- 1. 3 Challenge Opawa 2. 5 Ron’s Girl 3. 14 Perfect For Us 4. 16 He Trotts 5. 10 Grant Us Peace 6. 12 Irene P.H.Welch Chairman
