--Plea: Admits the breach
--N Goodwin filed an information alleging a breach of Rule 638(1)(d) in that R Hannam permitted his mount Desert Saboteur to shift in near the 800m when not clear of The Benefactor (V Ho) which was dictated inward onto La Tempesta (M Walker) which in turn was taken in on to Pennon (D Walker) which was checked.
--Mr Goodwin demonstrated on the films available, Mr Hannam, near the 800m sitting four wide on leaving the back straight riding his mount along, moved into three wide putting pressure on The Benefactor (V Ho) into La Tempest (M Walker) with Pennon (D Walker) receiving a substantial check at that point and looses momentum and considerable ground.
--Mr Hannam questioned whether Mr Ho ever stopped riding or attempted to hold himself (R Hamman) out or take pressure off the horses inside.
--Mr Goodwin stated Mr Ho was entitled to his line and was under pressure from the outside.
--The charge is proven.
--Penalty
--The committee was presented with one of the most impressive records available. Mr Hannam has not had a charge since October 2008 in excess of 550 rides. The Stewards would normally seek in the range of six days for this type of offence. However due to his excellent record a suspension of less would be suitable.
--R Hannam suggested as he is seldom seen in the room his record speaks for itself. He admits the breach and for all but ½ width he would not be here. He suggested a penalty of three days and a fine.
--Decision
--In reaching their decision the committee have taken into account Mr Hannam’s admittance of the breach, also noting his exceptional riding record and accept the Stewards comment that Mr Hannam is not a rider that rides carelessly. The interference may have been of a lesser degree, the consequences of a greater degree, is deemed in the mid to high range affecting two horses and checking the third. With a starting point in the range of six days, the committee impose a penalty by way of suspension to commence at the close of racing Sunday 7th February up to and including the close of racing on Sunday 14th February (5 days).
