Race Date:

Race Number:
Race 8
Decision:
Rule 330 (2) : A Ruling was requested as to whether Jockey A Calder should ride THE PERFECT STORM or ONE COOL CAT in Race 8.
Rule 330 (2) : A Ruling was requested as to whether Jockey A Calder should ride THE PERFECT STORM or ONE COOL CAT in Race 8.
--Present : A Calder, Jockey
R Elliott, Trainer
Stipendiary Steward Mr M Williamson informed the Committee that Jockey A Calder was initially engaged to ride ONE COOL CAT and on Sunday his agent, Mr M Dillon, accepted the ride. His mount, meanwhile had been placed on the ballot and later that same day trainer R Elliot contacted Mr Dillon and asked for jockey Calder to ride THE PERFECT STORM. As there was a practice of a rider not being held to a balloted horse it was accepted that jockey A Calder would ride R Elliot’s horse in race 8. That ride was declared on Monday.
--Trainer D Sellwood disputed the engagement prior to race 8.
--Jockey A Calder confirmed he was the declared rider for THE PERFECT STORM since Monday and he questioned his agent over the engagement on Tuesday.
--Trainer R Elliot informed the Committee that he rang agent Dillon on Sunday to engage jockey Calder and was told it might be all right.
--DECISION AND REASON
--In coming to our decision the Committee noted that neither agent Dillon or trainer Sellwood were present on course and that the details of the dispute were relayed to the stewards prior to race 8 on the actual race day. We also noted the comments of the stewards that the details were sketchy and conducted in an unsatisfactory manner.
--Jockey Calder accepted the ride on THE PERFECT STORM and was declared for that horse on Monday. The race book on course confirmed that. It was also accepted by the Committee that racing publications and form analysis at the TAB confirmed that. Therefore the betting public were of the opinion that jockey A Calder was to ride THE PERFECT STORM.
--The Committee therefore rules that A Calder’s mount in race 8 shall be THE PERFECT STORM.
