Rule 870 (3) and Breaking Horse Regulations : At the conclusion of Race 1, The Molly’s Restaurant and Bar Trot 2200m, a protest was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr C J Allison into the fourth placed horse PATIENCEOFASAINT, driven by J Cox, alleging that it broke from its gait approximately 100 metres from the finish, in breach of the Breaking Horse Regulations.
Rule 870 (3) and Breaking Horse Regulations : At the conclusion of Race 1, The Molly’s Restaurant and Bar Trot 2200m, a protest was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr C J Allison into the fourth placed horse PATIENCEOFASAINT, driven by J Cox, alleging that it broke from its gait approximately 100 metres from the finish, in breach of the Breaking Horse Regulations.
Mr Allison used several video clips to demonstrate the alleged incident, also stating that he believed the horse broke in excess of 100 metres.
Mr Cox agreed with Mr Allison’s summation and had nothing further to add.
DECISION
The protest was upheld and we exercised our discretion to disqualify PATIENCEOFASAINT, given the extended distance (greater than 100 metres) over which the horse raced out of its gait, prior to and passing the winning post.
