Following the running of race nine on the programme, an Information was lodged against junior driver, Mr GD Smith, alleging a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used the whip excessively on Clifford Jasper in the run home.
Following the running of race nine on the programme, an Information was lodged against junior driver, Mr GD Smith, alleging a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used the whip excessively on Clifford Jasper in the run home.
----Mr Smith admitted the breach and elected not to be present.
----Explaining the circumstances, stipendiary steward Mrs Williams said that Mr Smith drove Clifford Jasper in race nine and, in their view, used the whip excessively. On viewing the video, he admitted the breach and chose not to attend the hearing.
----In this case, Mr Smith has admitted a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) in that he used his whip excessively on Clifford Jasper, and we have had the benefit of viewing the video which showed that, with one break after two strikes, he continued to use the whip 26 times in the run home, without a further break. This is clearly excessive and, in the absence of submissions from Mr Smith, I am satisfied that the recommendation from the stipendiary stewards is appropriate and Mr Smith is fined the sum of $200.00.
