--

Ms Williams was charged with a breach of rule 871(1)(d), careless riding, in that in race 4 she permitted her mount FAIRER PLAY to shift out when not sufficiently clear of MARULA (J Bullard) causing that horse to check near the 350 metres. She informed the Committee that she admitted the breach.

Mr J Davidson, stipendiary steward, had Mr M Davidson, assistant stipendiary steward, demonstrate the incident on the videos. He identified Ms William's and Mr Bullard's mounts and showed that as they were turning for home Ms Williams angled out on her mount FAIRER PLAY causing a check to MARULA ridden by Mr Bullard with resulting interference to MALA STRANA ridden by J Misbah which was on the outer of MARULA. MALA STRANA was observed to screw sideways as a result of outwards pressure. Ms Williams said she was having a difficult ride and that the horse was on one rein for most of the race. She said FAIRER PLAY was racing with a different bit to that that the horse had worked in during the week. Mr J Davidson said there was no evidence of FAIRER PLAY hanging and that the horse was being ridden hands and heels immediately prior to the incident.

--

--

Mr J Davidson believed a suspension was appropriate and produced Ms William's record which showed a suspension for 2 days on 30 September 2006.

--

--

Taking into account the nature of the incident, in that it resulted in interference to 2 horses, and caused one horse to become unbalanced at a crucial stage of the race, we adopt a starting point of 3 days suspension. Giving weight to Ms William's ready and open admission of the breach and accepting she had had a difficult ride, we impose a suspension from the end of racing today up to and including Saturday 17 February 2007. This is 2 South Island days.
