Decision: --

Ms Young you?ve admitted a breach of rule 520(4)(c) in race 3 in that you failed to make the contract weight of 55.5 kg on OUR ANNIE

--

Ms Young you?ve admitted a breach of rule 520(4)(c) in race 3 in that you failed to make the contract weight of 55.5 kg on OUR ANNIE and as a consequence you were replaced by Mr D Skerrett.

--

--

You?ve been unwell today, most probably because of wasting, and have had to stand down for 1 ride. To your credit you?ve said you?re able to ride for the rest of the day. Unfortunately you?re unable ride OUR ANNIE as you?re a kg over at 56.5.

--

--

As Mr Ching has emphasised this is not your first breach of this rule. As recently as the 9th of this month you were fined $150 at Invercargill and you were warned on 8 June by the stipendiary steward and on 11 February you were fined $300 here at Otago. So that is one previous breach this season and a further warning and a charge in the past year. We also agree with his comment that you have to get your weight problems under control with the busy summer racing just beginning. It is appropriate we take this latter factor into account when determining whether a suspension or a fine is appropriate. When South Island races are scheduled at the same time as meetings in the North Island there is a dearth of experienced jockeys, such as yourself, available to the connections of horses.

--

--

Mr Ching has said any fine should be substantial. Again we agree with Mr Ching. Taking into account your record, your ready admission of the breach, your circumstances today, and your remorse, we fine you the sum of $500 and remind you of your obligations under the Rules of Racing.
