Following the running of Race 11, the Bedpost Hastings 1400, Ms L. Allpress was charged with careless riding under Rule 638 (1) (d).

--

The information alleged that L. Allpress permitted her mount SECOND HOPE to shift inward near the 1000m when not clear of CULLEVER (D.Walsh) who was checked.
Ms Allpress admitted the breach.

--

Mr. Neal used the available videos to highlight and explain the incident. Ms Allpress came from a wide gate and was trying to get cover in behind D. Walker’s mount. As she moved inwards she inconvenienced rider D.Walsh, the side-on view showing him receiving quite a severe check.

--

Ms Allpress said that as soon as she heard Mr. Walsh call out to her she tried to pull out and away but it was too late.

--

In relation to penalty Mr. Williamson said that Ms Allpress had a good riding record with only two careless riding charges in the previous 12 months.
He said that the degree of carelessness was at the lower end and submitted that a suspension of four to five days was appropriate.

--

Ms Allpress outlined her riding commitments for the week ahead and advised that she rides throughout the country.

--

Penalty

--

In coming to a decision on penalty the committee had regard to all of the submissions put before it.  We agreed that a term of suspension was an appropriate penalty and in determining the length of suspension took into account Ms Allpress’s very good riding record and her admission of the breach.

--

We also had regard to the fact that Mr. Walsh was significantly impeded by the interference but note also Ms Allpress’s attempt at corrective action.

--

Taking into account Ms Allpress being a national rider she is suspended from Monday 19th October until Saturday 24th October inclusive – in effect four days.
