Following the running of the Wairarapa Laundry Maiden Ms K. Myers admitted a charge of careless riding under rule 871(1)(d) in relation to her ride on TAIKO.

--

--

Ms Myers was assisted at the hearing by Mr R. Hannam.

--

--

Mr McCutcheon used the head on, side and rear films of the final 200 metres to show TAIKO sprint from a position near the back of the field and then move inwards several horse widths at the 100 metres taking the line of INHERITANCE (J. Parkes), which was sharply checked.

--

--

Mr McCutcheon noted TAIKO was inclined to lay in but Ms Myers had continued to ride with the whip as she moved across INHERITANCE. He acknowledged INHERITANCE had come to the end of its run but believed Ms Myers' carelessness was not of a minor degree. He advised Ms Myers had two previous charges of careless riding this season. One on 10 December 2005 and the other on 22 April 2006.

--

--

Ms Myers submitted TAIKO was green and inclined to lug in and although she had looked across she acknowledged she was insufficiently clear of INHERITANCE.

--

--

The Committee considered the degree of carelessness warranted a suspension and in setting the term had regard to Ms Myers record which is becoming less than impressive. While a term of 4-5 days was appropriate the Committee gave Ms Myers credit for her frank and forthright admission of the matter and took into account the unkind racing manners of her mount. We therefore impose a suspension of 3 days. Ms Myers is suspended from the close of racing on 17 May 2006 until the close of racing on 24 May 2006.
