Mr Ching has asked for a fine in the range of $300 to $500. He said a fine of $500 was imposed recently at Paeroa for a breach of this Rule, however in quite different circumstances. He has emphasised the impact this error could have had if it had not been detected by Mr Lawson, assistant stipendiary steward, at the time of the plate inspection, and had either horse filled a dividend bearing position.

However, we must also take account the exigencies of the situation today. Mr Anderton has a large team at the meeting, with only 25 to 30 minutes between races and 28 minutes between races 4 and 5. He had two horses in each of these races. He has said that an honest mistake was made and we accept this. He is still unsure how the switch in saddles occurred. Both Mr Anderton and Mr Ching have emphasised Mr Anderton’s excellent record. We agree this record stands Mr Anderton in good stead and we give full credit for his ready and open admission of the breach. In these circumstances we impose a fine of $350.
