Following Race 8 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 819 when the informant, Mr C George, alleged that apprentice jockey Mr C Ormsby accepted a ride without his employer's consent.

DECISION AND REASON:
--Following Race 8 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 819 when the informant, Mr C George, alleged that apprentice jockey Mr C Ormsby accepted a ride without his employer's consent.
--Mr Ormsby admitted the breach and was represented by Mr L O?Sullivan.
--Mr George said that Mr Ormsby accepted the ride on PINPRICK at 52 kgs on the Tuesday prior to the race and then told the trainer, Mr M Moroney, on the Thursday he was unable to make the weight and would not be riding the horse. Mr George said this was unacceptable and placed the trainer in a difficult position finding a replacement at that weight so close to the race.
--Mr O?Sullivan said he was partly to blame as he was unaware Mr Ormsby had taken the mount at 52 kgs, but it was he who decided Mr Ormsby would relinquish the ride, as he felt it would be too hard for Mr Ormsby to make the weight.
--Penalty:
--Mr George said he believed a fine of $100-$200 was appropriate.
--The committee considered all submissions and in imposing a fine of $150 told Mr Ormsby he must be more responsible in accepting rides and certainly consult his employer Mr O?Sullivan.
