Following the running of Race 6, the Ashburton Club Liquor Centre Handicap Pace, an information was filed by Stipendiary Steward Mr S. P. Renault against Mr C. R. Thornley, Licensed Trainer of “Gypsy Woman” (7), alleging a breach of Rule 864(2)(d). It was alleged that Mr Thornley failed to affix the removable earplugs so as not malfunction.

Following the running of Race 6, the Ashburton Club Liquor Centre Handicap Pace, an information was filed by Stipendiary Steward Mr S. P. Renault against Mr C. R. Thornley, Licensed Trainer of “Gypsy Woman” (7), alleging a breach of Rule 864(2)(d). It was alleged that Mr Thornley failed to affix the removable earplugs so as not malfunction.
--Mr Thornley had indicated on the information that he admitted this breach of the rules and that he did not wish to attend the hearing. Mr Renault said that when Mr Thornley activated the earplugs one came out and one didn’t.
--Mr Renault recommended a fine of $100-00 in this case, and we were satisfied that this was an appropriate amount and in line with previous penalties imposed for a breach of this Rule. Accordingly Mr Thornley was fined the sum of $100-00.
