--Stipendiary Steward Mr S Ching alleged that "Jockey L Young presented herself unable to make the correct riding weight to MISS McCLUNE in Race 3 at the Otago Racing Club."
--He stated that the connections of MISS McCLURE informed him that Miss Young was unable to make the weight of 54 kgs and requested a replacement. The trainer, Mr Moorhead, engaged her on trial day at Ashburton, which was nomination day for this meeting. Miss Young was half a kilogram over.
--Mr Ching said the reason he had charged Miss Young was that she has on several occasions been spoken to about accepting rides she could not make the weight. Recently she received an official warning that any further infringements would result in a charge.
--Miss Young admitted her guilt. She said she took rides and tried to lose weight, she had spent her last three days in the sauna. In answer to a question she stated she could normally ride at 55 to 55-1/2 kgs.
--Penalty:
--Taking into account Miss Young has not been charged before under this rule and that she has difficulty with her weight and her admission of guilt on one hand, and on the other, the fact that she has been spoken to several times and warned that the next time she would be charged. Miss Young was fined $300.
