DECISION AND REASONS:
--Following the running of Race 10 an information was laid by Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr N. R. Escott against Mr M. Purdon alleging a breach of Rule 864(2)(d) in that the near side rein came adrift on "Classic Cullen" over the early stages of the race. Mr Purdon had indicated on the Information that he admitted this breach of the rules and that he did not wish to be present at the hearing.
--PENALTY: Mr Escott advised that no other horse was affected by this gear failure. It was recommended that as this was a $20,000-00 race a fine of $200-00 would be appropriate. We were aware of fines imposed for similar breaches of this Rule, and agreed that a fine of $200-00 was appropriate. Mr Purdon was therefore fined the sum of $200-00.
