Mrs Teaz horseman's licence is suspended at the conclusion of racing on the 15th January. This suspension is lifted after racing at Otaki on the 22nd January and is in effect a 4 drive penalty.

Junior Horsewoman Mrs M Teaz was charged with using her whip excessively on J D's Chrimar over the concluding stages of race 6.
Facts:
Mrs Teaz appeared for the hearing having admitted the breach. She was supported by open horsewoman Miss N Chilcott. She confirmed that she understood the rule.
Stipendiary Steward, Mr J Muirhead referred to video footage of the concluding stages of the race which showed J D's Chrimar being struck by the whip on 23 occasions from the 400 metre mark. He conceded the breach was at the lower end of the scale and that there had been breaks in the whipping action.
Submissions for Penalty:
Mr Muirhead told the hearing that Mrs Teaz was a junior driver with a good driving record who had readily admitted the breach. Her personal situation was such that she could ill afford a fine. As such, he sought a suspension. In the normal course of events a breach of this nature would attract a fine in the region of $250 or one weeks suspension equating in her case to a maximum 5 drive suspension.
Miss Chilcott for Mrs Teaz told the hearing that this was the first breach of this rule by a relatively inexperienced driver who had readily admitted fault. She had driven the horse into 4th place. Mrs Teaz was due to drive both days at Otaki and would have at least two drives per day and possibly more. In view of the fact the stipendiary stewards placed the breach ar the lower end of the scale she submitted that a two day suspension effectively a minimum four drive suspension was appropriate.
Reasons for Penalty:
In arriving at an appropriate penalty the committee took into account Mrs Teaz relative inexperience and junior driver status, her prompt admission of the breach, her clear driving record and that the breach was clearly at the lower level of offending. The committee also took into account the fact the Mrs Teaz would not be driving at the Manukau meeting.
