Waikato RC 2 October 2020 – R 1 – Chair, Mr N McCutcheon
ID: JCA14773
Code:
Thoroughbred
Meet Title:
Waikato RC - 2 October 2020
Meet Chair:
NMcCutcheon
Race Date:
2020/10/02
Race Number:
R 1
Decision:
Due to the charge being admitted along with the film evidence of the incident the charge was upheld.
Penalty:
Mr Grylls’ Jockey’s License was suspended from the end of racing on 4 October until the conclusion of racing on 10 October 2020 (4 riding days).
Facts:
Following the running of Race 1 (NZB Ready To Run Breezeups 12-13 October 3YO) Information No. A13907 was filed with the Judicial Committee. It was alleged by the Informant that Mr Grylls allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of ATISHU (S Spratt) which was crowded and hampered. Also crowded was ALL BLACK BOURBON (D Johnson) and ON DISPLAY (A Goindasamy).
Mr Grylls acknowledged that he understood the Rule, the Charge and confirmed that he admitted the breach of the Rule ( 638(1)(d) ).
Mr Robinson showed the film replays and identified the horses involved. He said that Mr Grylls shifted in when a bare length clear which caused tightening to ATISHU which was checked with ALL BLACK BOURBON and ON DISPLAY being tightened and crowded, this occurred near the 1100m.
Mr Grylls said that he got it wrong, hence he admitted the breach. He said that he is usually conscious of what is happening around him and on this occasion it was a mere lack of judgement.
Submissions for Penalty:
Mr Williamson said that Mr Grylls is one of the busiest riders in the area and has a very good record with only one careless riding charge being preferred in the last 12 months. He placed the carelessness just below mid-range and added that Ms Spratt had tightened Ms Johnson prior to Mr Grylls shifting in.
Mr Grylls said that he had a very good record and has a full book of rides on most racedays. He added that a suspension of his licence could start after 4 October 2020.
Reasons for Penalty:
The Committee placed the carelessness below mid-range and adopted a starting point of 5 riding days suspension. Taking into account the admission of the breach and Mr Grylls’ very good record, it was a determined that a 4 riding day suspension was a suitable penalty for the breach.
