"Blackjacky" was driven by Brett Cusdin in the "Tradestaff" - 2011 NZ Junior Driver Championship (Heat 1) Handicap Trot being race 3 on the programme.
Shortly after the start, "Blackjacky" broke from its gait and galloped for about 100 metres or so. Mr Cusdin was able to restain the horse but when it resumed its run, it did so in a pacing gait, and stayed in that gait for the remainder of the race (estimated at 2200 metres).
It crossed the finishing line in second place.
