Following the running of Race 1 (Matamata Function Centre 2000), Informaton No. A13816 was filed with the Judicial Committee. It was alleged that Ms Thornton used the whip excessively prior to the 100m when riding VENI VICI.
Ms Thornton said that she understood the Rule, Charge and confirmed that she admitted the breach.
Ms Algar showed film replays which showed that Ms Thornton struck her mount with the the whip 8 times prior to the 100m (5 is the limit).
Ms Thornton agreed that she had struck her mount 8 times.

Mr Coles said that Ms Thornton had one prior breach of the Rule in the last 12 months.
When advised of the JCA Penalty Guide by the Chair, in essence Ms Thornton said that the penalty had been discussed with the Stewards.
